Cyber Monday Deals for Teachers

**This post contains affiliate links and I will be compensated if you make a purchase after clicking on my links. I only recommend products that I use and love.

#1 – Holiday Gifts for Teammates

If you exchange gifts with your teammates at school, Cyber Monday is the perfect time to shop for them. Picking the perfect gifts can be a challenge, though. Here are some ideas to help you get started.

If your teammates always come to school with coffee or tea in the morning, help them stock up on their favorite warm beverages for the winter.

This Stash Tea Sampler comes with 50 different flavors. There is even a holiday collection that features special flavors, like Christmas in Paris and Holiday Chai.

If your teammates are coffee drinkers, they might prefer the 12 Gourmet Coffees of Christmas Gift Set. They can try a different flavor each day over holiday break.

If you’re like me you love shopping. However, as a teacher, you have to watch how much you spend. I’m always looking for new ways to save money. We already talked about how to save money at the grocery store. Today I’m going to give you some tools to help you save money after you shop.

Save Money After You Shop

You get home from the store and empty all your bags. Put everything away where it goes, but don’t throw away your receipts. They can help you save even more money on the items you just purchased. There are several different apps that allow you to scan your receipt to get cash back if you bought certain products. These are some of my favorites.

1. Rakuten

What I Love About Rakuten:

You get money back on things you’re already buying.

You just click a button, and Rakuten does the rest.

After you make a qualifying purchase, the money is added to your account. You will receive a check in the mail the following month.

How It Works –

Use my affiliate link to go to the Rakuten website and create an account.

When you’re shopping online, click on the Rakuten button.

Shop as you normally would.

Rakuten will add money to your account.

2. Ibotta

What I Love About Ibotta:

They work with hundreds of grocery stores across the country.

You can get money back on groceries or online purchases at hundreds of other retailers.

There are special bonuses if you redeem a certain number of offers.

It is really easy to withdraw your money. You can send it directly to Paypal or get gift cards for popular stores. I’ve already made over $100 with Ibotta.

How It Works –

Go to the Ibotta website and create an account. You will get $20 free just for signing up.

Download the Ibotta app on your phone. I would love it if you would use my referral code: eepppjy.

Go to “Find Offers,” choose your store, and select the items you bought.

Go to “Redeem” and take pictures of your receipt.

3. Checkout 51

What I Love About Checkout 51:

You don’t have to choose a store. Any receipt will work.

There are offers for lots of popular brands.

You can get the money you earn through PayPal or a check mailed to your house.

How It Works –

Go to the Checkout 51 website and create an account.

Download the Checkout 51 app on your phone.

Press the plus sign for all the items you purchased.

Go to “Redeem” and take pictures of your receipt.

You will receive an email when the money is added to your account.

4. SavingStar

What I Love About SavingStar:

You can add your grocery store card number into the SavingStar app. If that works for your grocery store, you don’t have to scan any receipts.

You will get an email telling you when rebates have been added to your account.

You can get the money you earn through a bank account deposit, PayPal, or a Starbucks, iTunes, or AMC Theaters eGift Card.

How It Works –

Download the SavingStar app on your phone and set up an account.

Click on any rebate offers you might buy. You have to do this before you go to the grocery store if you loaded your grocery store card number into the app.

You will get an email when savings have been added to your account.

5. Fetch Rewards

What I Love About Fetch Rewards:

I just started using Fetch Rewards, but I already love that I don’t have to choose offers. Just take pictures of your receipt, and the app checks for any available offers.

You cash out your rewards for gift cards from lots of popular stores.

How It Works –

Download the Fetch Rewards app on your phone and set up an account. Enter my referral code, J2VAB, to get 2,000 points.

Take pictures of your receipts. Points will be added to your account for any available offers.

Helpful Hints

I save hundreds of dollars using these apps each year. However, they can lead to spending more money if you try to buy items just to get the rebates. That’s why I wait until after I shop to check the apps. This works for all of them except SavingStar.

When I get home from the grocery store, I look through the apps and select the items I bought. Then, I lay out my receipts and take the pictures. All of this takes only a few minutes, and the money is usually added to my account within a few minutes.

As teachers, we spend lots of our own money on school supplies. Classroom decorations, books, notebooks and pencils for our students all come out of our paychecks. One way to cut down on your own spending and get supplies for your classroom is by creating an Amazon Wish List. Use these 5 easy steps to get started.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-1185 aligncenter" src="https://teachwithouttears.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/amazon-wish-list-pinterest.jpg" alt="Do you have an Amazon Wish List?
**This post contains affiliate links and I will be compensated if you make a purchase after clicking on my links. I only recommend products that I use and love.

Have you ever said to yourself, “If I only had a little bit more budget money, I would love to get a _________ for my classroom!” We all have a wish list created in our minds of what we want for our classrooms. Put that wish list in writing, and watch as items appear at your doorstep through the magic of Amazon.

Step #1 – Go to Amazon and look for items you want for your classroom.

As you know, you can find just about anything on Amazon. There is no shortage of supplies for your classroom. These are some of my favorite things to add to my Amazon Wish List.

Dry Erase Pockets

Check out some other great teacher resources to add to your wish list.

I try to add items that are a variety of prices. That way, people can spend as much or as little as they want.

Step #2 – Add the item to your wish list.

Click the button that says “Add to List”. It’s right below where you would normally add the item to your cart.

Then, a window will open so you can change the settings for your wish list.

Choose “Wish List”.

Give your Wish List a name. I called mine “School Wish List”.

Set the Privacy to “Public”. That way others will be able to see it.

I leave the “Keep purchased items on your list.” unchecked. That way, you won’t get duplicates.

Finally, click “Create List”.

Step #3 – Finish adding wish list items.

When you add an item to your wish list, Amazon will suggest other related items. You can either add those items to your list or click the button on the side to “Continue Shopping”.

Finish adding items to your wish list.

Step #4 – Share your wish list.

Once your wish list is ready, send it to your family, friends, and students’ parents. You can keep it public, and people will be able to search for it. I changed mine to “Shared” by clicking on the three dots on the right side of the picture below. While you’re there, fill in your address and other information if it’s not already there. Then, click the “Send list to others” link.

This pop-up will appear. You can copy the link and share it with people or you can send them an email directly from here. You can even share your wish list on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest.

#5 – Sit back and wait for your wish list items to appear.

As people order items off your wish list, they will be shipped directly to your house. My family members often buy me something for back to school, and my students’ families love it for Christmas and end of the year gifts.

Prime Day is quickly approaching. That means great deals on Amazon. However, you don’t have to wait until Prime Day rolls around each year. Here are 5 tricks to save money on Amazon all year long.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class=" wp-image-1082 aligncenter" src="https://teachwithouttears.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/save-money-on-amazon.jpg" alt="Amazon is the perfect place to stock up on things for the classroom and for home.
5 Best Tricks to Save Money on Amazon

**This post contains affiliate links and I will be compensated if you make a purchase after clicking on my links. I only recommend products that I use and love.

#1 – Sign up for Amazon Prime.

If you’re not already a Prime member, you should definitely become one. There are so many benefits of Prime Membership.

You can’t participate in Prime Day if you don’t have Amazon Prime.

Free 2-day shipping

Stream and download movies and TV shows with Prime Video

Get books before their official publication with Prime Reading

Get free music with Prime Music

Click to get a free 30-day trial of Amazon Prime.

#2 – Load items you want into your shopping cart.

Amazon’s prices are constantly fluctuating. If you see something you want, but it seems a bit expensive, add it to your cart. Don’t buy it right away. Check back periodically and see if the price went down. Snatch it up when the price is lower.

You can also use the website CamelCamelCamel to see the price history of items on Amazon. That way, you can see what the lowest price was and wait for it to go back down again.

Of course, this strategy won’t work if you need something right away. That’s why I start browsing long before I actually need things. I start looking for Christmas gifts for my kids over the summer and use this strategy.

#3 – Ask for Amazon gift cards.

When my students ask me what I want for Christmas or end of the year gifts, I always say Amazon gift cards. I also ask for them from family members for my birthday and other holidays. Since I can purchase things for school and home from Amazon, it is the perfect gift.

Once I save up enough gift cards, I add them onto my Amazon account and never have to pay money for things I’m buying.

#4 – Price match with other sites.

Don’t automatically assume that Amazon has the lowest prices. Be sure to check the websites of other stores that carry the item you’re buying. You just might be able to find it cheaper somewhere else. I generally look at Walmart, Kmart, and Target before purchasing on Amazon.

Also, check the reviews of the items on other websites. Getting as many different opinions about the product will help you make sure you’re making a good choice.

#5 – Use Ebates for even more savings.

If you’re not using Ebates, you have to sign up now! You will get money back just for shopping online. When you’re shopping on Amazon, watch for the Ebates button to show up at the top of your screen. It will tell you what percentage of cash you’ll get back. Click to activate it and shop as you normally would. Then, wait for your Ebates check to arrive in the mail. If you join by clicking my link, you will get $10 free.

Other Amazing Things About Amazon

Amazon has amazing customer service! If there is an issue with an item you purchased from Amazon, simply email their customer service. They will get back to you quickly and solve the problem.

You can really get anything on Amazon. Need things for your classroom? Amazon has them. Need things for your house? Amazon has them. Need to buy food? You can now buy from Whole Foods through Amazon. It’s really one-stop shopping.

Amazon tracks all of your purchases. This is a good thing for a few reasons. First of all, if you get something you really like but you forget what it was called, you can look back in your purchase history and find it. This is also great for taxes. At the end of the year you can find out exactly how much you spent on school supplies and write them off on your taxes.

Teachers are constantly making lists. I have about 5 to-do lists going at all times. However, one list we often forget about is our grocery list. Here are some tips for turning that little piece of paper into big savings.

Money-Saving Grocery List Tips

Tip #1 – Stay organized.

Your grocery list won’t be nearly as helpful if it is a scribbled list of words in no particular order. I like to organize my grocery list by where to find the products in the store. My list is always organized into these categories.

Produce

Meats

Canned/Boxed Items

Dairy

Frozen

Other

This is the path I travel through the grocery store, and I’m able to find the products in order. Organizing my grocery lists this way makes my grocery store trips much quicker. I don’t have to go back and forth across the store, because I know where all of my items are ahead of time.

Download a printable copy of my grocery list template. Just “Make a Copy,” and you will be able to edit it with any categories that work well for you.

Tip #2 – Use the weekly circular to make your list.

The weekly circular is my best friend. It has saved me so much money! Each grocery store publishes its weekly circular once a week. You can either pick one up at the grocery store or you can go to the store’s website.

Every Thursday night, I go to Giant’s and Weis’s websites and check out the weekly circular. I look for good deals on items I need for the week. The front page of the circular usually has some of the best deals. Then, I look through the rest of the circular for items I need that are on sale.

Some circulars even have coupons in them. At Giant, I always pick up a paper copy of the circular as soon as I enter the store. That way I’m able to tear out the coupons I want to use that week.

Tip #3 – Include the price on your grocery list.

If you printed my shopping list template, you probably noticed that there is a spot for the price of the item. I didn’t always do this. However, now I don’t make a grocery list without the prices.

Here’s why.

First of all, it helps when I’m making my list. When I’m looking at two different circulars, I like to compare the prices of items. Before I started recording the prices, I had to go back and forth between the circulars to see where the products were less expensive.

Now, I write the price down when I find the item in the first circular. Then, I can check and see if it’s more or less expensive when I’m looking through the second circular.

Having the prices on my grocery list also helps when I’m at the store. Before I got in the habit of doing this, I would find an item at the store, and the sale price wouldn’t be marked. I knew it had been discounted in the circular, but I didn’t remember how much it was supposed to cost. I paid full price for a lot of items because I wasn’t sure if I had made a mistake. Now, I can just look at my list to see what the price should be. If it doesn’t match the listed price, I can ask a store employee.

Having the prices written down has also saved me when items didn’t ring up correctly at check-out. I’ve been able to tell the cashier the price it should be. Usually, they just verify it with the circular and correct the mistake.

Tip #4 – Attach your coupons to your grocery list.

Another way I stay organized when I’m grocery shopping is by using a paperclip to put my coupons with my grocery list. When I prepare my grocery list, I also take out all the coupons I’m using that week. Paperclipping them to my list keeps me from forgetting them at home, and I remember to give them to the cashier.

Find out if couponing can really save you money.

Tip #5 – Stick to your grocery list.

If you’re taking the time to make a grocery list, stick to it when you get to the grocery store. It’s very tempting to buy things as you walk up and down the aisles. However, those items just add to your bill. If they’re not things you need, pass by them.

I try not to look at anything that’s not on my list. I go directly to the aisles where I can find the items I need. As soon as the last item is in my cart, I head to check-out.

The Benefits of a Grocery List

I used to dread grocery shopping. It took forever, I didn’t know what to buy, and I ended up paying hundreds of dollars for items that didn’t even feed my family for the week. Making a grocery list has helped me get organized and save money at the grocery store. Now, I look forward to my weekly grocery shopping trip. I love to see how much money I can save.

If you don’t make a grocery list before going to the grocery store, I challenge you to start. The small amount of time you’ll spend making your list will be worth it when you save time and money at the grocery store.

People ask me all the time: Does couponing really save money? They envision extreme couponers with stacks of newspapers spending their days cutting and organizing coupons. They think using coupons takes hours each week and don’t want to waste valuable time clipping them. I’m here to tell you that couponing doesn’t have to take hours, and, yes, it will save you money.

The Truth About Couponing

We’ve all seen the show Extreme Couponers where people are digging through dumpsters to find more coupons. They are definitely able to save lots of money, but I’m not willing to go to those extremes to save a few dollars. I also don’t have five hours each day to cut and organize my coupons. You can use coupons and save money in under an hour a week.

I first started using coupons when I was on maternity leave with my daughter. I was skeptical at first, too. With a newborn and a three year old, I didn’t have a lot of free time. I started by purchasing the Sunday newspaper and clipping the coupons from the inserts. If I could find two coupons a week that matched with items I was already buying, I saved an extra $2 a week. That doesn’t seem like much, but it’s about $100 a year.

Where to Find Coupons

I started by just using the coupons from the newspaper, but since then, I’ve discovered other places to find coupons. Here are some of my favorites.

The Newspaper – This is still one of the top places I find my coupons. I used to go to Turkey Hill every Sunday morning to pick up a copy of the newspaper. Now, I have the Sunday paper delivered to my house, which saves a few dollars a month.

Coupons.com – You can either download the coupons.com app on your phone or visit the website on your computer. Some grocery stores allow you to enter your club card number, and coupons are sent directly to your card. Others require you to print the coupons and use them at checkout.

The Store Circular – Some grocery stores include coupons directly in their store circular. I usually check the circular online to see what coupons are available that week. Then, I grab a hard copy of the circular when I enter the grocery store and tear out the coupons I will be using.

On the Grocery Store Website – You can set up an online account on the grocery store’s website using your club card. Then, you just go into the “coupons” section of the website and click on any coupons you might use. They are sent directly to your club card, so there’s no clipping required. Many grocery stores also have an app that makes this even easier.

At the Grocery Store – Many grocery stores now have coupon dispensers right in the aisles. As you’re shopping, keep an eye out for these little money-savers. Even if I’m not planning to buy the item that week, I’ll often take one of the coupons in case I want to purchase the product later. Also, be sure to look at the items you’re buying. Every once in a while, the manufacturer will attach a coupon to the package. That way all you have to do is pull it off and use it at checkout to save some extra money.

Staying Organized

Now that you’ve clipped all these little pieces of paper, what do you do with them? There are many different ways to organize your coupons. You could make a coupon binder or use envelopes. I found a coupon organizer at the Dollar Store that works great for me. As long as your coupons are grouped by category, it will be easy to find them quickly.

Next, you need to be organized for your trip to the grocery store. I like to paperclip the coupons I know I’m using to my grocery list. That way I won’t forget them at home, and I won’t have to dig through all my coupons to find them. I also always bring my coupon organizer with me to the grocery store. If I forgot to take one out or I end up buying something that wasn’t on my list, I can find it before I checkout.

Another important part of staying organized is getting rid of expired coupons. Once a week, as I’m planning my grocery trip, I will go through my coupon organizer and take out any coupons that are expired. This also gives me a chance to look at all of my coupons. That way I know which ones I have as I’m planning my grocery list.

So Back to the Original Question

Does couponing really save money? When I first started couponing, I was only saving about $2 a week. Over the past 3 years, I’ve discovered all the other places to find coupons, and my savings have increased greatly. Now, I save at least $10 a week using coupons. Usually it’s more than that, but I’m being conservative. If you save $10 a week using coupons, that adds up to about $500 a year. What would you do with an extra $500?

Couponing also doesn’t have to take a ton of time. Sunday night, I turn on a 30-minute TV show after my kids are in bed and clip my coupons from the newspaper and Coupons.com. Thursday night, I clean out my expired coupons, plan my grocery trip, and paperclip the coupons I’m using to my grocery list. That takes under an hour. Start using these tips to save on your grocery bill now!

Now that you know how to use coupons to save money, find out if you’re making any of these grocery store mistakes. Fix them to save even more money.

With a teacher’s salary, there is no money to waste. We need to do everything we can to save money. The grocery store is a great place to find deals. However, every week when I go to the store, I see people paying full price for their food and missing out on lots of opportunities to save. Are you making these grocery store mistakes? Find out what they are and how to fix them.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class=" wp-image-882 aligncenter" src="https://teachwithouttears.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/grocery-store-mistakes-pinterest.jpg" alt="Are you making these grocery store mistakes?
Grocery Store Mistakes That Are Wasting Your Money

On Facebook, I constantly see posts about teachers looking for a second job. For all the time and effort we put into our teaching, it’s crazy that we have to look for other ways to make money.

My husband and I are both teachers. Before having children, we were living comfortably on our teaching salaries. However, adding two very expensive little ones changed that. We needed to find ways to spend less, since neither of us wanted to lose more time with our family by getting a second job.

The grocery store was by far one of the easiest places to find ways to save. I realized that I had been wasting tons of money on my grocery shopping trip each week. I was making lots of mistakes, and I found ways to cut our grocery budget in half.

Are you making these mistakes, too?

Mistake #1 – Not Using a Club Card

You’ve unloaded all the items from your cart, and the cashier asks you a simple question, “Do you have your club card?” If the answer is, “No,” you’re making a big mistake. Sure, the cashier may use the store card to save you a few dollars. However, you’re missing out on the points that get added directly to your club card. Every grocery store where I shop gives you points to use on gas. If you don’t have a store card, you’re just throwing that gas money away.

What can you do to fix this grocery store mistake? Take five minutes to go to the customer service desk, and apply for a card. You just answer a few questions, and your card is ready to be used immediately. Usually, there is even a card to put on your key ring, so you don’t accidentally forget it at home.

Now every time the cashier asks if you have your store card, your answer should be, “Yes!”

Mistake #2 – Not Making a Grocery List

Going to the grocery store without a list is like going on a treasure hunt without a map. You’re wandering aimlessly trying to remember what you need to buy and where to find it. Along the way, you make some wrong turns and end up adding items to your cart that you had no intention of buying. All of those extra purchases add up to a larger charge on your credit card.

What can you do to fix this grocery store mistake? Plan out your shopping trip ahead of time. Think about what you need for the week, and make a list to guide you through your grocery shopping trip. Stick to your list, and you’ll save money.
