Episode #7 – Grocery Shopping Tips for Healthy Eating

Your trips to the grocery store can make or break your healthy eating habits. If you stock up on junk foods and desserts, you’re probably not going to be able to stick with your healthy eating goals. However, if you buy lots of fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains, you’ll be on your way to a week of healthy meals. Keep reading to learn some grocery shopping tips for healthy eating.

Grocery Store Tips:

  1. Make a grocery list, and stick to it.
  1. Eat a snack or meal before going to the grocery store.
  1. Go grocery shopping by yourself.
  1. Only go to the grocery store once a week.
  1. Do most of your shopping in the outside aisles of the grocery store.
  1. Buy fresh fruits and vegetables at the farmer’s market.
  1. When you get home from the grocery store, put unhealthy snack foods where you can’t see them.
  1. Wash your vegetables as soon as you get home from the store, and put some fruits on the counter. That way, you’ll have easy, healthy snacks to grab.

Action Steps

  1. Make your grocery list and eat a snack before heading to the grocery store.
  2. At the grocery store, do most of your shopping in the outside sections of the store. Stick to your list, and avoid adding unnecessary junk foods to your cart.
  3. As soon as you get home, wash and cut your vegetables. Put fruits on the counter so you always have healthy snack options.
